Egypt evokes many strong images – Pyramids, Nile, Cleopatra, Moses and the enslavement of the Israelites are but a few. Over the past few years as I have travelled around this country with several mission teams, I have been privileged to see an Egypt that remains hidden from most outsiders – a Christian Egypt.

The Egyptian Church has prevailed in the face of continuous persecution, even today. Against all the odds our Father God has preserved a people for himself in this ancient land, with around 11 million believers. That’s about 46% of all believers in the Middle East region. This is one reason why Egypt is key to unlocking the Gospel in the heart of the Islamic world!

For so long mission strategy has been to fund Western missionaries, teach them Arabic, train them in cross-cultural matters and place them in work contexts that allow them to get visas. New strategies are being born.

Our Egyptian brothers and sisters can travel freely anywhere in the region, are native speakers of the language, understand the subtleties of Middle Eastern culture and have a faith that has been tested. It makes far more sense to invest our time and money in them.

The APN and CityHarvest International¹s Ben Gray and team are taking up this challenge over the next three years. In September 2010 we sent a group of 5 Australian pastors and leaders to train over 250 Egyptian pastors and leaders in a 4 day conference; this was one first event. To help facilitate these strategic training opportunities, we are asking you to consider financially partnering with us. In 2010, many did, and this enabled us to lift the number who could attend, from 150 to 250. The team doing the training pay their own way and freely give of their time.

Each leader costs $50 per head. This covers transporting leaders from all over Egypt, housing and feeding them for a week.
